I. We invite you to join us at the Wintonbury Coffeehouse on Saturday, April 12th, to welcome back Tree by Leaf. This is an exciting young folk band from Maine, marked by haunting melodies, beautiful four-part harmonies, and provocative lyrics. The band consists of Garrett & Siiri Soucy and Cliff & Kelly Young - Cliff plays the piano, Garrett writes the songs and plays guitar, all of them sing, and the music they produce is just incredible. Tree by Leaf makes fans and friends everywhere they play, and we expect that everyone who heard them at Wintonbury last January will want to hear them again. You can visit them on the web at www.treebyleaf.org, and you can hear samples of their music in our Listening Room.

We'll open the evening with a set of jazz-flavored folk from the Kathleen Kruze Trio. Kathleen has graced our stage many times in the past, accompanied by Robin Simmons, that lady who sings soprano and plays bass. A couple of years ago, Kathleen and Robin added percussionist James Moss to the mix, resulting in music that is evocative, rhythmic, and almost dream-like.
Check out some of their songs in our Listening Room.

The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for admission or refreshments. A $7 donation is suggested to cover expenses.

II. Audio File of the Month - We've had a bit of technical difficulty this month and don't have a new song for you. How about one of our favorite songs from Tree by Leaf? On the album liner notes, Garrett Soucy describes "Highway Five" as a song about "Judas, Peter, and me on a highway in Vermont." Enjoy it.

III. Link of the Month - Bryan Graves is a Boston-area singer/songwriter with a refreshingly honest collection of songs. We're looking forward to hosting him at Wintonbury on June 14th, when he opens for Nico.

IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - We had a great time listening to the incredible harmonies of Maeve, surely one of the finest new Christian groups in the northeast. They were joined on the stage by Nico, who just happened to be in attendance and just happened have his djembe in the car! BookEnds did a fine job as always in the opening set, with songs of hope and brotherhood - and just plain silliness. About 70 people joined us for this one.

V. New Coffeehouse - We've just heard about still another Christian coffeehouse in Connecticut! It's called the Cosmic Glue Café, and it's held every Friday at Calvary Fellowship in Southbury. You can get details and see the complete list at www.wintonburycoffeehouse.org. From the home page, click on "Links and Other Venues," and then select "Christian Coffeehouses." We're absolutely amazed by the number of Christian coffeehouses presently operating in the state - our list is up to 21 and counting, and all of the information on the list has been confirmed within the past six months. We're not sure what this means or what God's plans are, but we can only think this explosion of Christian coffeehouses is a good development.
