I. We invite you to join us at the Wintonbury Coffeehouse on Saturday, February 8th hear urban folk artist Tom Conlon. For ten years, Tom has been touring the country and charming audiences with great songs and an intimate, storyteller's style. Tom's songs are reflective ballads, rich with emotional honesty and poetic lyricism, and his music combines elements of traditional folk, soul, and gospel. This is Tom's first visit to Wintonbury - come and experience the music that has won over audiences around the country. You can visit Tom on the web at www.tomconlonmusic.com
We'll open the evening with a set from Shana Cassidy, the wonderful singer/songwriter who opened last August's coffeehouse. Shana writes with clarity and candor about the things that touch her deeply, and delivers her songs with great depth of feeling and an incredibly beautiful voice. You can hear samples of Shana's music at her web site, www.shanacassidy.com
Have you visited the Wintonbury Coffeehouse lately? In addition to coffee, teas, cold beverages and popcorn, we're now offering fresh-brewed lattes and cappuccinos, and home-baked cookies and brownies. And all included in your donation at the door. Come check it out!
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for admission or refreshments. A $7 donation is suggested to cover expenses.
II. Audio File of the Month - "Falling" by Nate & James, recorded live at Wintonbury on January 11th. Stress and uncertainty in our lives can make us miserable - or they make us more aware of our need for God.III. Link of the Month - The Lighthouse Cafe - Check out this Guilford, Connecticut coffeehouse which hosts live music every Friday and Saturday, plus an open mic every Wednesday!
IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Hey, that was a great coffeehouse! Nate & James made a hit with the Wintonbury audience on January 11th with their likable songs and terrific harmonies. This was their first appearance in Connecticut, but far from their last - you can see where else they're playing at their web site, www.nateandjames.com. Michael Kelly Blanchard followed with a performance which ranged, as usual, from deeply touching to outrageously funny. Michael is one of the outstanding Christian songwriters of our day, and we feel very blessed that we've been able to host him so many times over the years. We estimate about 140 people enjoyed this one with us.
V. Summer Decision - Due to poor attendance at Wintonbury's summer coffeehouses in 2002, we've decided to take July and August off this year. We've already started filling in the calendar for the fall of 2003. Please visit our website for our complete schedule, directions, information for musicians, a list of Christian coffeehouses in Connecticut, and more.
VI. New Coffeehouses - Several new coffeehouses have come to our attention lately, and we've added them to the list of Christian coffeehouses in Connecticut at the Wintonbury Coffeehouse web site. Studio 150 in Wethersfield, Frontline in Hamden, and the Lighthouse Cafi in Guilford are all new to us. You can see the complete list at www.wintonburycoffeehouse.org From the home page, click on "Links and Other Venues," and then select "Christian Coffeehouses."
