I. There's no doubt who the all-time favorite of the Wintonbury Coffeehouse audience is - it's Brooks Williams, and we are pleased to welcome him back to Wintonbury on Saturday, October 11th. Brooks Williams is a singer, songwriter, and truly extraordinary guitarist, and he's been a good friend to the coffeehouse over the years as he's built a well-deserved national reputation on the folk circuit. Brooks has been described a folk renegade because his style is so distinctive that it defies categories, drawing from the traditional folk music of the British Isles, Delta blues, American spirituals, a bit of calypso, and cutting-edge acoustic styles. No one who enjoys the guitar should miss this coffeehouse - in a long life full of good music, you will seldom hear a guitarist with the musicianship and creativity of Brooks Williams. You can visit him on the web at www.brookswilliams.com, and you can hear a few of his songs in our Listening Room
We'll open the evening with a set from an exciting newcomer to our stage. Eunice Sim. Eunice has a clear, true voice and an absolutely amazing way with words and a tune. She is truly one of the best songwriters we've ever heard. You can check out her web site at http://www.eunicesim.com
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for admission or refreshments. A $7 donation is suggested to cover expenses.
II. Audio File of the Month - "Leaving Me Hungry" Mayve reminds us that it all comes down to love. Recorded live at Wintonbury on March 8, 2003.
III. Link of the Month - Shana has given her site a whole new look and added some new features, including a really nice bio - check it out. We're looking forward to having Shana with us at Wintonbury on November 8th.
IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Wintonbury's 2003-2004 season got off to a
great start. About 85 people enjoyed Nate & James along with us as they
gave the kind of performance that has made them favorites all over the northeast.
And Koo Chung lit up the stage in his first Wintonbury appearance. He made
such a hit with the Wintonbury audience that we hope to have him back with
his whole band sometime this spring. And we've booked singer/songwriter Minnow
Park, who accompanied Koo on this trip, to perform a solo set to open the January
10th coffeehouse.
