I. Join us on Saturday, April 9th, as we welcome singer/songwriter and guitarist Bob Stanhope back to our stage. Bob is one of those songwriters who avoid the clichés and make us think beyond the obvious. We never know quite what to expect from Bob, as his repertoire ranges from the profound to the quirky to the outrageously funny, but we always know we can expect a great evening from a real pro. You can visit Bob on the web at www.bobstanhope.com, and you can hear some songs recorded on his previous visits to Wintonbury in our Listening Room.
We'll open the evening with a newcomer to our stage, Robin O'Herin. Robin is a wonderful guitarist, playing slide and fingerstyle guitar as she interprets traditional blues and gospel songs in a lovely, soulful voice. She also plays mountain dulcimer as she mixes some traditional Appalachian music into her set. Check out Robin's web site at www.robinoherin.com, and join us on April 9th to enjoy her first appearance at Wintonbury.
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for admission or refreshments. A $7 donation is suggested to cover expenses.
II. Audio File of the Month - "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" A couple of years ago, Maeve member Rachel Taylor came to Wintonbury with her trio, and they played this great jazz version of the classic hymn.
III. Link of the Month - Koo Chung - Koo's been a real busy guy - playing, recording, and running a record label. Catch up with him on his site, and be sure to come out to hear him at Wintonbury on May 14th.
IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - It was a really fun coffeehouse on March 12th, as about 125 people joined us to hear Nico and David Brooke. David played a really fine solo set that showed how much he has grown as a singer and songwriter just since last October. Nico brought his wife Ingrid along to sing backing vocals, and played what may have been his best set ever at Wintonbury. We like the way the room feels with 125 people in it - hope we can do that more often!
