II. Link of the Month - summer festivals
III. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Koo Chung Band, Micah Vierling
I. Join us on Saturday, June 11th, to hear Michael Kelly Blanchard, probably the best-known and best-loved of Connecticut's Christian musicians. His trademark song, "Be Ye Glad," is familiar even to many who have never heard Michael. Once described by Noel Paul Stookey as "C.S. Lewis with a guitar," Michael Blanchard writes songs that reach out to people where they live - sometimes deeply touching, sometimes outrageously funny, and very often both. We laugh along with him through songs about blind dates and child-rearing, and are moved almost to tears by songs of estrangement, loss, and the redemptive power of God's love. Don't miss this opportunity to hear one of the finest Christian songwriters of our era. You can visit Michael on the web at www.m-k-blanchard.org
We'll open the evening with a set of cutting-edge acoustic music from Josh Strecker & friends. Josh lives next door in West Hartford, where he works as a youth pastor, and he puts together a set of powerful and melodic tunes. His style is both very listenable and a little quirky, a bit reminiscent of Harrod & Funck. Josh made his first Wintonbury appearance this past September, and we're looking forward to hosting him again.
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for admission or refreshments. A $7 donation is suggested to cover expenses.
II. Links of the Month - There will be no July coffeehouse at Wintonbury this
year. So if you can't wait until August 13 to enjoy some great music by Christians,
here are some festivals to check out:
Jesus Fest, July 9, Tolland, CT
Revival in Bethlehem, July
21-23, Bethlehem, CT
SoulFest, August 3-7, Gilford, NH
IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Attendance was a bit disappointing (about 60), but the music and fellowship were not. We welcomed the Koo Chung Band back to Wintonbury, and they did their usual wonderful job. They were joined this time by singer/songwriter Jinny Kim on keyboard, Jinny shared some of her own terrific songs with us, and Minnow Park also gave us a couple of solo tunes. Micah Vierling was well received as he performed a really good opening set in his first visit to Wintonbury.
