I. Join us on Saturday, May 14th to hear the acoustic pop/rock sounds of the Koo Chung Band. Koo writes songs that connect deeply with his listeners, as he shares candidly his own personal struggles and the issues of faith and life that are most important to him. On this trip, the band is also bringing singer/songwriter Jinny Kim to share some of her songs with us. Jinny writes thoughtful songs about some of life's really tough issues and delivers them with a lovely, ethereal voice. You can visit Koo on the web at www.koochung.com, and Jinny at www.jinnykim.com You can also hear a couple of songs that Koo's played at Wintonbury in the Listening Room at our web site.
We'll open the evening with a set from a newcomer to the Wintonbury stage, Micah Vierling. Micah comes to us from Pennsylvania with a collection of honest and reflective songs, folk with just a hint of country. Micah had been scheduled to appear at the January 8th coffeehouse - but that one was snowed out. We're expecting this to be a great evening - hope you can join us!
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Baptist Church, 54 Maple Avenue, Bloomfield, Connecticut. Starting time is 7:30 p.m., and the doors open at 7:00. There is no charge for admission or refreshments. A $7 donation is suggested to cover expenses.
II. Audio File of the Month - "Come Unto Me." - Shana Cassidy's lovely interpretation of Matthew 11:28-30.
III. Link of the Month - Tree by Leaf - We're really glad to have Tree by Leaf on our schedule again. If you've never heard them before, they're a cutting-edge folk band distinguished by haunting melodies, beautiful three-part harmonies, and provocative lyrics. Be sure to catch them at Wintonbury on September 10.
IV. Last Month's Coffeehouse - We're not sure why attendance fluctuates so widely from month to month - if you have any insights on this, please share them with us. About 60 people enjoyed the music and humor or Bob Stanhope with us on April 9, and it seems as though Bob just keeps getting better every year. We also really enjoyed Robin O'Herin's first visit to the Wintonbury stage. She's a really fine slide and fingerstyle guitarist, and her voice is wonderful. Go and see her at one of her gigs sometime if you missed her at Wintonbury.
And we were delighted to have Deborah King with us for the evening - Deborah and her husband Jim started the Wintonbury Coffeehouse (then known as the Wintonbury Folk Fellowship) back in 1978. They have since started a church in Maine and are in the process of launching a new coffeehouse there. It was great to see Deborah and meet with some members of their coffeehouse team!
