I. There's no doubt who the all-time favorite of the Wintonbury Coffeehouse audience is - it's Brooks Williams, and we are pleased to welcome him back to Wintonbury on Saturday, December 9th. Brooks Williams is a singer, songwriter, and truly extraordinary guitarist, and he's been a good friend to the coffeehouse over the years as he's built a well-deserved national reputation on the folk circuit. Brooks has been described a folk renegade because his style is so distinctive that it defies categories, drawing from the traditional folk music of the British Isles, Delta blues, American spirituals, a bit of calypso, and cutting-edge acoustic styles. In a long life full of good music, you will seldom hear a guitarist with the musicianship and creativity of Brooks Williams. You can visit him on the web at http://www.brookswilliams.com
We'll open the evening with a return set from West Hartford's Josh Strecker. Josh writes strong, melodic songs with a bit of an alternative acoustic edge. He has been very enthusiastically received in his last three appearances at Wintonbury - come and find out why.
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Church, 54 Maple Avenue in Bloomfield. Starting time is 7:30.
There is no charge for admission or refreshments, but we suggest a $10 donation this month to help meet expenses.
II. Link of the Month - Anadara - We hosted Anadara at Wintonbury only once, about three years ago - about a month before she got married and moved to California (it looks like she's in Nashville now). She's been doing some exciting stuff since then - check it out.
III. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Traci Root and Robin O'Herin - November 11 at Wintonbury was one of those evenings when the audience just didn't want to go home. Robin did a wonderful job in her opening set of blues and gospel. Traci Root, accompanied by Luis Rivera and Luis Rivera, followed with an excellent set of her highly original pop music and blew everybody away. (That hip-hop song took everyone by surprise, but we loved it.) The evening ended with Traci, Robin, and the two Luises all jamming together on stage, with Traci improvising song lyrics based on the greetings that audience members had sent to each other during intermission! Great night.
