I. Join us on Saturday, May 13th for a return appearance by acoustic pop/rocker Koo Chung. Koo writes songs that connect deeply with his listeners, as he shares candidly his own personal struggles and the issues of faith and life that are most important to him. Most of the band is staying home this time, as Koo and drummer Paul Rhee bring us a more scaled-down and intimate set. You can visit Koo on the web at www.koochung.com, and hear a couple of songs that he's played at Wintonbury in our web site Listening Room.
We'll open the evening with a set from Fireflye, the alternative acoustic duo of Beth Colegrove and Jeffrey Butcher. Beth and Jeff accompanied Brooks Williams in his last appearance at Wintonbury, and we look forward to their first full set with us. Check out Fireflye's web site at www.fireflye.com
We'll open the evening with a return appearance by singer/songwriter Erica Soucy, who delighted the Wintonbury audience with her first set last fall. Erica is the sister of Tree by Leaf's Garrett Soucy, and an amazing knack with words seems to run in the family. Join us in welcoming her back to Wintonbury on June 10th.
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Church, 54 Maple Avenue in Bloomfield. Starting time is 7:30. There is no charge for admission or refreshments, but we suggest a $7 donation to help meet expenses.
II. Link of the Month - Answers in Action focuses on issues of apologetics and cults, and is set apart by the depth of their commitment to the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. As the release of The DaVinci Code film approaches, check out Answers in Action's excellent response to the issues raised by the novel.
III. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Ben & Vesper, Hitoshi Yamaguchi - It's the age of the internet, but we found out on April 8 that the flyer we send out by third class mail is still the most important publicity we do. The post office didn't deliver the coffeehouse flyer until after the April coffeehouse, with the result that there were only about 30 people in attendance. But those 30 enjoyed a set of very contemplative songs from Hitoshi Yamaguchi, whose songwriting just keeps getting better all the time. He was followed by Ben and Vesper Stamper, who played us a set of lovely, dreamlike songs, some with vaguely theatrical overtones. Their modern, surreal style was a new experience for our audience, and people seemed to be enjoying their first exposure to this edgy, alternative music. (P.S. The May flyer was delivered very promptly.)
