III. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Brooks Williams and Josh Strecker
I. Join us on Saturday, January 13th, to hear Michael Kelly Blanchard, probably the best-known and best-loved of Connecticut's Christian musicians. His trademark song, "Be Ye Glad," is familiar even to many who have never heard Michael. Once described by Noel Paul Stookey as "C.S. Lewis with a guitar," Michael Blanchard writes songs that reach out to people where they live - sometimes deeply touching, sometimes outrageously funny, and very often both. We laugh along with him through songs about blind dates and child-rearing, and are moved almost to tears by songs of estrangement, loss, and the redemptive power of God's love. Don't miss this opportunity to hear one of the finest Christian songwriters of our era. You can visit Michael on the web at www.michaelkellyblanchard.com
Wintonbury newcomer Phoebe Henry will open the evening. At age 16, Phoebe is already a veteran singer/songwriter, with a long resume of live performances and several CDs to her credit. Her musical style has been compared to that of Jewel and Sarah McLachlan, with a lyrical depth drawn from her desire to be authentic in her writing. Phoebe's songs reflect her personal experiences and her profound spiritual beliefs. Visit her web site at www.phoebehenry.com.
The Wintonbury Coffeehouse is held on the second Saturday of the month at Wintonbury Church, 54 Maple Avenue in Bloomfield. Starting time is 7:30.
There is no charge for admission or refreshments, but we suggest a $10 donation this month to help meet expenses.
II. Link of the Month - Bob Stanhope - Bob is a perennial favorite at the Wintonbury Coffeehouse, but the music we hear from him every year on our stage is only part of what he does. Check out the many facets of Bob at his web site.
III. Last Month's Coffeehouse - Brooks Williams and Josh Strecker - Nutcrackers, office parties, school programs, Christmas shopping, the flu, and the ever-popular "I'm exhausted and don't want to go out tonight" - a December 9th coffeehouse has a lot of competition. Even so, about 100 people turned out to enjoy Brooks Williams in one of the most relaxed and enjoyable sets we've heard from him.
Josh Strecker opened with a set that showed how much he has grown as a songwriter and singer over the past year. He and substitute emcee Jay Dailey also seemed to be involved in a contest to tell the worst jokes of the night. A good time was had by all.
